This shirt is inspired by a beaded coat from the 1920s. Bode reproduced the beadwork using motifs from a 1789 sampler. Samplers, sewing exercises used to teach and perfect needlework skills, have been standard practice for centuries but are particularly associated with early American craft. All beading is worked by hand.
